Which Superior Essex cables may be installed in NFPA-130 applications?

April 5, 2022

  • Any plenum-rated optical fiber or copper data cable used in communications applications other than emergency communications circuits,
  • Any riser-rated optical fiber or copper data cable used in communications applications with additional “ST-1” listing (such as HZA and HZD) other than emergency communications circuits,
  • If used within the emergency ventilation air distribution system, any cable meeting one of the two previous requirements and contained in EMT, IMC, or RMC,
  • If used within the emergency communications circuits requiring 1-hour fire rating, no offering.

Proper installation methods per NFPA-130 must be followed. Always check the latest NFPA-130 revision to confirm compliance and check with your AHJ (this information is based on the 2020 NFPA-130 code).
