As part of ongoing and industry-leading sustainability efforts, Superior Essex Communications, the leading manufacturer and supplier of communications cable in North America, has aligned its programs with those established in the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals.
The company has committed to supporting 12 out of 17 specific UN goals, which means its efforts to improve the environment and other elements of sustainability, including economic growth, health and responsible consumption, will join with a global movement.
“In the past decade, we’ve demonstrated our commitment to sustainability and social responsibility through dozens of actions, large and small, to improve the environment and contribute to the health and safety of our facilities, our employees and our planet,” said Annie Bevan, Global Head of Sustainability, Superior Essex Communications. “We’re thrilled to take the next step and align with a global program as part of a shared vision of a sustainable future for all.”
After adoption by all member nations, the UN SDG program was launched in 2015 as an element of the organization’s 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. The goals are an urgent call for action by all countries, developed and developing, in a global partnership. They recognize that ending poverty and other deprivations must go hand-in-hand with strategies that improve health and education, reduce inequality and spur economic growth, all while tackling climate change and working to preserve our oceans and forests.
In a few of its key sustainability efforts, Superior Essex Communication recently achieved Zero Waste to Landfill (ZWTL) certification for the seventh consecutive year at its manufacturing facility in Hoisington, Kansas. Few companies have been able to keep that certification, which supports UN Goal 12, Responsible Consumption and Production, for seven years in a row. This facility also has reduced its scope 1 and 2 carbon emissions by 20% since 2016, supporting both Goal 12 and Goal 13, Climate Action.
